Rebuilding Mercedes Benz SLC 450 Part 1

Another ambitious project is currently implemented by our classic crew: The conversion of a Mercedes Benz SLC 450 5.0, built in 1980. In the 70s and 80s Mercedes gained numerous successes in cross-country rally sport with the SLC 450 and SLC 500. Even the cypresses green SLC will be used in future at classic car rallies and clubsport events with the opportunity to use the car in daily life.

Therefore, the selection of the components plays a crucial role. First, a DMSB certificated roll cage will be installed which permits to use the original interior trim again with slightly modifications. Other safety-related components, such as 4-point seat belt harness, Recaro Sportster half-shell seats, Momo motorsport steering wheel and a fire extinguishing system will be installed.

A fly-off handbrake provides in future fast and precise changes of direction in tight corners and hairpins. For improved driving dynamics, we install a purpose-built KW 2-way Competition racing suspension. Other chassis components such as wishbones, stabilisers and numerous bearings will be renewed. To emphasise the soundscape of the 5.0 liter V8 engine, we will mount a complete mcpipes exhaust system. You can learn more about this project in our next newsletter.
