24h race: Team mcchip-dkr KTM X-BOW GTX project “Drive to Hell” continues!

The countdown for the ADAC TOTAL 24h race Nürburgring 2021 is on. From June 3rd to 6th, 2021, the mcchip-dkr team will tackle the world's toughest race on the legendary Nürburgring-Nordschleife.

After the early withdrawal with the KTM X-BOW GTX from the Nürburgring endurance series, which was supposed to serve as preparation for the season highlight, the team found a solution after extensive conversations with KTM to resume fortunately the project “Drive to Hell”.

The driver line-up for the KTM X-BOW GTX consists of the experienced Nordschleife pilots, Heiko Hammel, Dieter Schmidtmann, Christoph Breuer and the talented young driver Tim Heinemann. Dieter Schmidtmann has only been able to drive a few laps with the KTM so far and the vehicle concept is completely new for Christoph Breuer. The duo Breuer and Schmidtmann already completed the legendary 24h race with an Audi TT RS 2.0 Turbo in 2013 and 2014 and achieved class win in SP3T twice in a row. Heiko Hammel and Tim Heinemann have the greatest wealth of experience with the KTM X-BOW GTX. Nevertheless, the team lacks important test kilometers and experience to return on the good performance from the second NLS race. The top priority for the 24 hour race is to reach the checkered flag.

Team manager Danny Kubasik: “The decision to renounce our start at the third NLS race certainly threw us back a bit in preparation. Nevertheless, we try to get the best possible result and will achieve further development steps. We have a strong quartet of drivers with a lot of experience and routine. Heiko and Christoph are especially very valuable to adapt the setting up the KW Competition suspension. The fact that Tim is now back in our team is a real stroke of luck. He was very quick with the KTM straight away and has shown a lot of talent. In order to gain some more driving experience, we successfully completed a test day on the Nürburgring GP track last week. "

In addition to the KTM, the team also competes in the V4 class with a BMW E90 325i. For the first time, the rookies Lucas Lange, Sascha Lott and Alex Meixner will contest a 24 hour race at the Nürburgring. The trio was able to successfully finish the 24h qualification race and thus create good conditions for the long race twice around the clock.

As usual, the qualifying sessions will take place on Thursday and Friday (June 3rd to 4th). The start of the 49th edition of the ADAC TOTAL 24h Race Nürburgring 2021 will take place on Saturday, June 5th at 3:30 p.m.
