Dieter Schmidtmann is not only team boss, he can drive the Renault R.S. 01 also very fast on the Nordschleife. This year he will be piloting the R.S. 01 again.
How did you get into motorsport?
By my buddy Georg Griesemann, who drives this year on our Porsche Cayman. It's his fault ;)
Your biggest success in motorsport?
The second overall place at the 7th VLN race 2017
Your expectations and targets for season 2018?
I hope the Renault runs solid and my fellow drivers and I do a good job. Then we will see where we find ourselves in the highly competitive GT3 VLN field.
How does the Renault R.S. 01 compared to other GT3 vehicles and where are the pros and cons?
The R.S. 01 is a very agile car, which requires more physically attention from the driver in contrast to a current GT3 vehicle. Currently, we are very strong in terms of braking performance. The traction control isn’t matured and our biggest disadvantage. Also the engine power isn’t quite on the GT3 level but the overall package fits and is quite competitive.
How do you prepare for a race weekend?
Not really, I get up Friday morning and drive to the ring instead go to work.
What do you do when you are not in the race car?
Unfortunately, I work too much and try to divide the rest of my free time between sport and my family, which unfortunately has been less successful in recent times.
