The sixth VLN race was for the drivers and the team around the Renault R.S. 01 GT3 a tough piece of work. Felipe Laser complimented the driver's line-up for the first time, in addition to the regular drivers Heiko Hammel and Dieter Schmidtmann.
Fog and wet sections on the Nordschleife provided for difficult conditions even in the qualifying. In the end of the 90 minutes qualifying session, the R.S. 01 finished on overall rank 11th and was the fastest vehicle in class SPX.
At the start of the race, the sky above the Eifel was clearing up, and the 160 cars started in the four-hour race. For us, the initial phase was unfortunately far from ideal, because already in the first lap, start driver Felipe Laser suffered a tire damage, which cost about four minutes. The tire damage, radio problems and rain showers over some sections of the Nordschleife destroyed the planned pitstop strategy.
"In the end, we have reached the 10th overall position. Certainly, not what we hoped for. Despite the difficult conditions, our team has done a perfect job." summarizes driver and team coach Dieter Schmidtmann.
