VLN 7: Solid performance remains unrewarded

The GTronix360° team mcchip-dkr traveled expectantly to the seventh round of the VLN Endurance Championship Nürburgring. On the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO with the driver duo Heiko Hammel and Dieter Schmidtmann waited a packed GT3 field.

Junior driver Nick Hanke was allowed to complete his first meter in the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO EVO on the GP track at Friday morning. A very special experience for the young driver, who was already successful in the Porsche Cayman 981 of the GTronix360° team mcchip-dkr. This day will remain in his memory for a long time.

The race day began as usual with the one and a half hour qualifying session, which was dominated by adverse weather conditions. To maintain a sufficient contingent of new rain tires for the four-hour race, the qualifying was just completed with used rain tires. Nevertheless, Heiko Hammel put the Lamborghini with a time of 9:37 minutes to the ninth starting position in the overall standing.

At the beginning of the race, difficult mixed conditions prevailed on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. Starting driver Heiko Hammel kept away from all skirmishes in the start phase and lined up behind the Falken BMW M6, which he closely followed for several laps. At last, Hammel had to pull off the M6, as his rain tires lost performance as the track dried off. After a long double stint he handed over the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO to Dieter Schmidtmann. The track continued to dry up and the team took Schmidtmann after only four laps in the pits to switch to slick tires. Schmidtmann was able to determine the speed of the front runners with a high risk due to occasional wet spots on the Nordschleife. Over several laps, Schmidtmann delivered an exciting duel with the Konrad Lamborghini for second place in the class SP9 Pro-Am. Unfortunately only two laps from the checkered flag, Schmidtmann lost the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO in the ultra-fast tracks section Mutkurve on the eighth place overall. Luckily, it only stayed with property damage. The Lamborghini is already at the coachbuilder and the GTronix360° team mcchip-dkr hopes to attack again at the eighth VLN race.
