VLN4: Exciting farewell race

The 49th Adenauer ADAC Rundstrecken-Trophy was a very special race for our team. It was the last race for the Renault R.S. 01 GT3 under the name of the GTronix 360° Team mcchip-dkr with the driver duo Heiko Hammel and Dieter Schmidtmann through the Green Hell. For the farewell race, we even gave "Chappie" a new design in the colors of our partner KW suspension.

Already on Friday morning, the first test drives on the Grand-Prix track were on schedule. At the Renault R.S. 01, last setup changes were tested. VLN newcomer Niklas Oheme became familiar with our Porsche Cayman. He got along well and drove good laptimes right away. The afternoon training on the Nordschleife unfortunately wasn’t so lucky. Heiko Hammel had to turn off the R.S. 01 GT3 in the section Quiddelbacher Höhe with a cable fire. As always, our team tries everything to get the car back on track. After a long night shift, which lasted until 6 o'clock in the morning, "Chappie" was ready for qualifying. A big compliment to our tireless mechanics.

Due to the problems of the previous day, we did not take much risk in qualifying and Dieter Schmidtmann placed the R.S. 01 GT3 in 10th place overall, as we use the qualifiying purely as a test run over 7 laps.
The Porsche Cayman finished the qualifying on 6th position in class V5. Regular driver Georg Griesemann was supported at this race by VLN newcomers Niklas Oehme and Andy Wolfe. Both are originally at home in historic motorsport and thereby already have some Nordschleife experience. They used the VLN race to obtain permit laps for their Permit A license.

The start turn on the Renault RS. 01 GT3 was driven by Dieter Schmidtmann, who made up several positions in his stint and handed over to Heiko Hammel after 7 laps. He had an exciting duel for the 7th position with the BMW M6 GT3 from Walkenhorst Motorsport. Dieter Schmidtmann took over the middle stint again and was able to stay in front the Walkenhorst BMW M6 GT3. Heiko Hammel drove an excellent final stint and was able to defend the 7th overall position until the end of the race. The Porsche Cayman crew also did a good job. Starting driver Andy Wolfe headed for the pits after a slight hit, but was able to continue and handed over to Niklas Oehme after his turn. The experienced driver Georg Griesemann brought the Porsche Cayman safely to the finish line after 22 laps on a respectable 3rd place in class V5. The two newcomers Wolfe and Oehme have reached the result of 75% in their class and get their laps credited for the Permit A license. At this point, we would like to thank all the fans who have kept their fingers crossed for our Renault R.S 01 GT3 project.
